We've been in this house over a year and I still don't have much artwork or many photos up on the walls.
We finally have all the wallpaper down and most of the rooms painted.
It's so hard for me to put a nail in the wall...I don't know why that is!
But...I have made progress.
Several weeks ago I visited my favorite store "Details" (see layout) with my friend Debbie Crouse.
I love this store!
I even did this layout about how much I love this store!
Anyway, I went back about a week or so ago and talked a couple of the very creative women who work there, Lisa and Marilyn into helping me put together some table designs for my house.
Here are just a few of the things that are now in my house:
In the entry on top the old organ which I've now decided to keep because it looks so good. Two vintage wood dolls, one of my many typewriters, a jar full of new old spools (from pottery barn), a vintage metal yardstick and a old arched window as a backdrop. There are also several books without covers that are wrapped up with white string and have a vintage pencil box on them.
On the dining room table (which I still don't have any art on the walls yet) a bunch of apothecary jars and vases filled with acorns, squash, moss & a partridge, pomegranate - vintage yard sticks & pussy willows, white pine cones and other stuff.
In the family room on the table a wire duomo from Ballard Designs filled with a birds nest and metal bird, two big porcelain eggs and an old corbel.
On our coffee table in the family room which is a stainless steel trunk from Restoration Hardware, I have a hammered metal dish from Pottery Barn with a hydrangea, two vintage law books, a magnifying glass and a wooden hand. Mike wasn't so keen on the hand but the boys and I love it.
And, I got to add this lamp which I love. It has such a cool shade.
Most of these items came from Details with the exception of the ones that got from PB or Ballard and the few that I already had.
My next project is the living room and to get some photos and art up on the walls.
love the new touches Sande. You have such a beautiful welcoming home.

what a beautiful Home! I have been following your progress and I can't believe you've been there over a year! You have a wonderful flair for decorating in the style I love! Wish you could come here and give me a few pointers! I so look forward to seeing what you've done in each room...I might have missed some, but do you think you could give us a 'photo' tour of things right now...the whole big picture? Happy decorating!

I have plaster walls so that's why I get so intimidated by putting nails in the wall. It just makes it seem so permanent.

I remember when we were in CA at CHA shopping...everything you picked up, I loved!

Thanks for sharing. I love the standing vintage doll; saw a similar one on a show Oprah did with Nate. Then I saw one in a shop close to me but it wasn't for sale :0<
I got some great ideas to try to incorporate in my own home. You have great flair!
