This past weekend we hosted a dinner party and had several couples from our neighborhood join us for what turned out to be a fabulous dinner!
We were grilling the steak and each couple agreed to bring a dish. Since I only knew that they were bringing "a dessert" or "a salad" and not the specifics of the dish, I decided to write the menu in French so that it would appear more appetizing than simply:
This menu looks far more exciting...
I even added: "Good conversation and maybe a joke or two" at the bottom.
I only speak a very small amount of French, not enough to write the menu by myself, but I've found that Google Translate works pretty darn well.
My friend, Jeanene, who does speak French looked at the menu after the party and told me there were only a few minor errors.
The menu is written on an old window frame that is backed with a thin sheet of plywood which is painted with chalkboard paint. I bought liquid chalk markers from Chalk Ink that work much better than writing with chalk sticks.
We're having spaghetti this week so I think I'll make our next menu in Italian.
