It's all in the Details...

Shopping at Details (1993 South 1100 East in the Sugarhouse District - Salt Lake City) is like taking a soak in the tub with REALLY good bubble bath. You have to linger awhile to absorb all the goodness.

 

Marilyn and Lisa design the store so that you're sucked as soon as you step foot in the door and it's like a vortex of loveliness - swirling you from room to room.

 Marilyn put together these apothecary jars with bits and pieces of vintage ephemera-button cards, tickets, lace and trims, spools, stamped tags, postcards...all tied up with ribbons and stamped fabric strips.

It's amazing how a simple row of buttons can take a plain linen pillow into the -"OMG...that's so cute!" category.

My wallet didn't make it out of the store unscathed this visit. I had to buy one of these big vintage sign holders. Unlike these two it's brown metal and rusty. I'll fill it with some word art and post it next week.

I love these big glass jars with the metal lids.

Come meet Stacy Julian and donate to a worthy cause

The "Crop Because You Care," benefit scrapbooking crop for Epilepsy has a special place in my heart. 

It is where I was discovered. My good friend Susan invited me, as her niece, Kris, is one of the principal organizers. She told me there was a layout contest and urged me to bring my album and submit some pages...because after all, whether I won or not it was a worthy cause. More important than winning 1st place that day, were the people I met, one being Stacy Julian and the other Sarah Milne, the owner of Scenic Route Paper Co. 

So this year is their 10th anniversary and Stacy Julian will be there again. If you live in or near Utah, it is a fun, relaxing day to be with other people who love to scrapbook. All of the proceeds to the Epilepsy foundation.

Home decor project

Debbie Crouse's studio is the perfect little vintage shop. 

All the shelves and nooks and crannies are filled with things to delight the eyes.

One reason is that Debbie is one of the mastermind designers, (Paula is the other design genius), behind the fabulous 7 Gypsies booths at CHA. So for years she's been creating little nuggets of chic vintage goodness to go in those booths...things like this:

When I saw this, I knew that I wanted to create something like it for my house.

So here is my version:

The base is a piece of styrofoam covered with 7 Gypsies paper and gaffer tape.

The posts are pieces of black, brass and silver wire that I twisted into various shapes with needle nose and jewelry pliers.

The tags are from the "Basics' collection that I designed for Basic Grey - most of them are PIECES but some are from Writer's Block in both the white and manilla collections.

I also used a bunch of the Flea Market mini labels and Travel mini labels from 7 Gypsies.

These products are so fabulously versatile I really wish that they would never be discontinued.

To give everything the same vintage look and color I used Tim Holtz' Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool. This is my favorite color of ink. I did all the labels double sided so that no matter how you looked through the apothecary jar you would see a stamped image.

My friends, Jessi Stringham and Paula Cheney, got me hooked on a website called pinterest.com.

If you're a visual person, like Jess, Paula and I are don't go here. You'll end up spending WAY TO MUCH time looking at all the pretty pictures that then lead you to pretty sites. A whole lot of yummy for your eyes.
