After frolicking with tigers and elephants then eating a delicious lunch at a local Thai restaurant, we headed to Erawan National Park. We hiked about 20 minutes up to the 2nd waterfall where beautiful emerald pools lay below the falls. One of the attractions here is the natural pedicure that you get from the local fish. The type of fish that swim in these pools are the same ones that are in the Fish Spas throughout Asia only much much bigger. It's a little startling when you dip your feet into the water for the first time as they swarm around your feet and start nibbling away. It is a little freaky at first but after that initial shock, I really enjoyed it.
The boys wanted to swim and slide down the falls. The photo above is of the 2nd set of falls and these photos below are of the 4th set of fall that had some fun natural rock slides. The butterflies were everywhere and they were BIG. They would flit about and then light on your leg and just sit there. It was a beautiful setting. Peaceful and serene. Lots of local families come up here with picnic baskets and spend the day. There is a little hiking involved over some moderately rough terrain so you'll want to be in fairly good shape i
f you are going here.
This tour (through Tour with Tong) which included the visit to the Bridge of the River Kwai, the VIP Tiger Temple, the Elephant rides and bath, lunch, the trip to Erawan National Park and waterfalls and transportation in a luxury van for our family stocked with ice water and towels to wipe the sweat and dirt away only cost $260 for each family member. We were gone for 12+ hours and had a fun, energetic guide, Kung and our favorite driver Rodger. We all felt that this was a steal for this unique and exciting day. As Ski said, "best vacation EVER!"
